Just as the evening was getting underway, an elderly woman quietly approached the reception desk. She wore a simple navy-blue dress, comfortable shoes, and carried a small handbag. Unlike many of the guests, she wore no expensive jewelry or designer accessories. She smiled politely as she reached the registration table.
Before she could say much, the event host stepped in front of her.
“I’m here for tonight’s dinner,” the woman said calmly.
The host quickly glanced around the room before looking back at her.
“I’m sorry, but this is an invitation-only event,” he replied firmly. “I don’t see your name on the list.”
The woman remained composed.
“There may be a misunderstanding,” she answered. “I’ve attended this event before.”
